Random post

I realized i never posted pics of my growing belly. :O i want to but the pic is in the other computer. dun wanna waste electricity turning it on anyway. different ppl have different opinions on how big my belly is...some say it's kinda big for my stage, some say it's ok...i really got no idea and it also depends on what i wear, some clothes make me look bigger. (in my antenatal class there's this lady who's like 5-6mths, i think, and looks like she's only 3 mths pregnant!)

I'm anticipating the more difficult, heavy-weight stage of pregnancy when my 'honeymoon' period will be over. still feels ok tho. anyway...
here's the lil discomforts...
1) it gets more difficult to sleep, i just need to fall to sleep...after that, it's easy...average 'falling to sleep time is 1/2hr. (i hear Ww breathing heavily asleep in less than 2mins! argghh)
2) shortness of breath. or i just feel my heartbeating faster
3) can't walk fast. i can walk really fast but now...i'm slowing down.
4) burping. it has come back a lil more than usual, i feel...the burping makes me feel a lil like vomitting...and freaks Ww out..even tho i tell him it's juz air.
5) eating. I can't eat as much as i could and smaller meals helps more coz baby's taking up more space so not a lot of space to fill with food.

having fun feeling Eliza move inside, either waving, poking, hiccupping, kicking, turning, nudging. she makes me giggle. :D

Baby movements

Eliza's movements makes me giggle...it's fun to to feel her move within me every night. (and through the day to...just that i don't have too much time to pay attention to her then).

28 weeks

I thought i would bother to update everytime after my gynae's visit..cos that's when i have the ultrasound scan. whell..not so much the other time around. we knew that baby Eliza is abt 680g @ 24weeks. and she was facing down again so we couldn't really see her face. but we were able to hear her heartbeat really loud!

meanwhile i'm growing larger and i wonder how much more will i grow with baby in the next 10+weeks. of course there are some changes over the past 26 weeks that i get used to as an expecting mum...really, as much as hormones makes my body change in preparation for baby's arrival..it also makes you kinda different, react differently..so here are some things in random order
- you dream more than usual (weird dreams and i don't dream a lot usually)
- you eat..for me i enjoy eating more but i'm also a lil choosy of what i eat and when. then again i also do try to watch what i eat..ie more fruits, more cereal, less oily stuff, no raw food
- food cravings..i don't have...i say they're just inspirational
- food repulsions...i don't like the taste of milk...sadly which i used to like a lot. but i make up with calcium supplements, and this Ensure vanilla milk powder which my mum bought me initially that really doesn't taste like milk
- washing at the sink isn't so convenient coz belly's increasing the distance b/w me & the sink....so sometimes i have to turn sideways to wash...or mayb it's just that my kitchen sink is too big
- standing and walking. honestly i quite fine with walking (i see it as exercise)...but not standing. because you don't get to move much when you stand...and i think blood doesn't flow too much so i get a lil tired more easily than normal (that's y it's a nice thing to do to give up yr seats to pregnant ladies..and also for her safety)
- climbing stairs...i see it as exercise but gosh i get out of breath more easily than normal...must be the extra weight i put on!
- burping. i don't know why...there's always so much air and so much to burp...but that was earlier in the pregnancy..and not so much now
- sleeping at night...i don't fall asleep so easily nowadays because i'll have to try to toss and turn until i find a nice and comfortable position to sleep but i still sleep like a log till the morning
- reading - i've been like reading as much as i can..magazines, pregnancy books, baby books and still it's never enough and i feel like i don't really know until i experienced it.

-----------
I wrote those about a week earlier but for some reason, my comp hung and i was to lazy to start it up again so i'm starting some writing again.

Today we went for gynae check up and Eliza has almost doubled in weight since we last saw her thru the ultrascan.
oh this was the 3 weeks ago one...

we had such a hard time seeing her coz her head was facing down again..but this week we did see her..moving her arms and legs, turning her head a bit.

and now she weighs 1.1kg! and me....i gained 1.8kg since my last gynae visit which was 3 weeks ago! gosh...even though Eliza's weight gain is 1/3 of my weight gain. hoho...no wonder i'm feelin heavier lately.

Now's the time to start preparing for baby things, cot and all sorts. so we went to the Taka sale and bought...mainly clothes. my sis-in-law says she has lots of milk bottles, then we have a sterilizer at home already...till in the end i juz bought baby wipes and clothes.
Ww picked this one out which is really cute!

and who can resist such sweet socks!! the thing about having girls is the beautiful and sweet clothes for girls.

these are the clothes i've bought so far...

...not counting some that friends have given also...stored in a box which i'm too lazy to pull it out until one fine day we have the energy and time to go buy a cabinet for Eliza's things.

there are much i would love to write but i'm sleepy at 9pm....yawns...maybe because i missed my sunday afternoon nap. i think i'm going to sleep more over this weekend. meanwhile i hope i can stay awake and wait till Ww comes back to show me his Teacher's day gifts.

It's a Girl!

We went for detailed scan on monday...detailed scan is like an overall check of the baby's size, organs (to check the heart is beating ok, kidneys ok), facial features (like ears, lips ok..), feet and hands, spine growing ok, brain fluids, umbilical cord ok, and so on. So it's like a lil movie of baby. ..longer than normal. So we did see her mouth opening and closing, her heart beating really fast and blood moving in and out of her heart's 4 chambers (like some mini bio lesson i try to recall), her bladder (as pointed out by the Radiographist), even the fluids through the umbilical cord. One of her arms was over on her head (which reminds me of how i sleep sometimes and this is not the first time we saw her with her arm at her head), and the other arm clasped. Most of the time we couldn't really identify much (other than the hands, feet and spine) if not for the radiographer who pointed it out.

Actually, the more difficult part was trying to get a picture of her face because she was lying face down at a seemingly very comfortable corner...like if u see here...

whell...after shaking her for a while...and me trying to turn to one side, she did for a moment turn her head and showed her face for a while. hee..shy girl. :P

though i hope she would have turned around somehow...dunno how it is a comfortable position to snuggle..but i guess babies bob all around mummy's womb.

and yes..this was one of the first things to find out...that she's a girl..lil paishe to show my baby's bottom out here...but i can't seem to figure out how the radiologist identify anyway. amazing how they can use ultrasound to take all kinds of angles

this part is of her arm...one over her head..and the other is her hand clasped.

So far so good...and she weighs 392g at that time...21wks + 1day

more next time..going to zz le...

Mini scare

On the sunday that has just passed, i discovered slight spotting (aka light bleeding like in the beginning or end of a period). No discomforts but still a cause for concern. I know it's plausible during the 1st trimester but not much heard during 2nd tri. Checked out the internet and found not much answers other than saying to contact doctor. It wasn't really serious so i dropped my gynae an email asking about it, which he replied (at 11pm!) to better drop by in the morning to check. Which we did...a lil too early and waited till like 1030am before my gynae could see me.
Anyway thru the ultrasound scan, we could see that the placenta is a lil low lying and was given 3 days MC bed rest. (3 days! wah...and i'm feeling quite well though..but ok better safe than sorry. anyway i still worked on monday till 830pm. thank God my work is somewhat a 'desk-bound' job)

anyway what's low lying placenta? Meaning the placenta is situated lower in the uterus, closer to the woman's cervix. A low-lying placenta at this stage of pregnancy is regarded as normal because the lower segment of the uterus has not fully formed yet. As many as 15% to 20% (one in five to six) of pregnancies have a low lying placenta.
so hopefully it will move up somehow...

was given medication to relax the womb and multivitamins (fish oil and calcium) which all added up to $88.81. good thing consultation was part of the package we took up. (it's a $758 package). gosh..the money to spend!

but got to see baby again..and sometimes i can't really make out the ultra sound images...other than the arms and legs.

can see baby's nose and the heartbeat pulsing away (during the ultrasound scan)

baby's arm..but i can't really figure out what position

baby's spine quite clear

and this time as usual baby's been quite active rolling and moving about. it's quite exciting feeling baby inside moving and kicking (usually in the mid day and night time), and feeling baby's heartbeat and sometimes i can feel baby on one side of belly and then after that move to the other.
this time dr.tan said that baby could most likely a girl (a girl!! :) )but still can't confirm. so we'll see how in 2 weeks time when we go for the detailed scan.

really 2nd trimester is a wonderful time of the pregnancy where i feel a lot more energetic (but i still need my sunday naps), and enjoying the wonders of baby growing in me. though somethings are sinking in...like getting tired after too much walking, finding it difficult to fall asleep (oh dear it's starting...especially finding a good position).

Baby's name

While we still do not know whether baby's a boy or girl we already had an idea on baby's name. If he's a boy...then it's quite default he'll be called Elijah. It's a name Ww has already decided very long ago that he'll name his son Elijah.

What does Elijah mean? it means that My God is the Lord. If you're familar with Elijah, a Hebrew prophet from the bible (1 & 2 Kings).

If she's a girl, then we'll name her Elizabeth or Eliza. Actually i kinda wanted Eliza but it's a short form of Elizabeth anyway after a little research. Both names mean My God is a vow. We'll bother about that later since there's still 5 months to figure out.

Next is chinese name...think hard. will prob have to get someone to help us with it....at first Ww had ideas of not giving a chinese name but i felt that chinese names can really be meaningful and beautiful.

Meanwhile...baby gets active sometimes and i can feel movements. not really strong ones like kicking (maybe it is but cos baby's still so small!) but i know baby's moving around inside like how we saw thru the ultrasound scan. Dr.Tan mentioned that an active baby is also a good sign of a healthy baby.

For every mother, whether it's a girl or boy we all want our children to be healthy and well.

Week 17

It's been such a long time since i've gotten the energy to post anything up! so much has happened since and i've just came bac from our lil getaway in sydney (boy..i love the cold weather!). i had wanted to post the 2nd gynae appt ultrasound images for a long time but never got down to do so.

so here it is

can u see baby's foot raised up?

It's kinda hard to make out some of the pics so these are the better ones. baby was kinda sleeping this time so we just got the same profiles. my gynae said baby's forehead is like mine..kinda high. ha...

i can't remember what i had wanted to write previously but things are better now and the nausea is easing out...other than when i'm tired...which will make me throw up so it's my body's way of telling me that i need rest. i'm kinda getting used to the throwing up thing..which i'll feel better after that so i didn't really mind. but it still scares Ww...heh..

today was our 3rd appointment with our gynae and baby's grown!

now we can see baby's foot and little toes

and baby's head and arms....

now baby's arms is over the head...can u see the fingers as well? baby was quite active this afternoon, moving around..at first upside down and then waving at us, and moving hands here and there. but it was too early to ascertain when baby's a girl or boy yet...we saw frm under baby's legs but it wasn't open enough to tell. at first dr.tan said it could be a girl, but then cos the legs weren't open we couldn't tell really tell if it'll be a boy instead so we'll wait to know. we'll know next time we go for detailed scan in mid-july. :)

it's quite exciting to see baby and i've been feeling baby's movements which aren't really strong but i know he/she's moving inside..usually quite active at night though. started to feel more movements when we're in sydney and Ww to put his ear to try to hear anything...some movements and the heartbeat.

more next time...:)
